Testing 2 flash: ETCC ace Borković rains supreme in Belgium

Dušan Borković made light of the wet conditions to set the pace in Testing 2 at Zolder this afternoon and underline his status as FIA European Touring Car Cup Single Make Trophy leader in the process.

The Serbian clocked a 1m57.014s in his Nis Petrol Racing Team SEAT León Cup Racer with TC2T contender Davit Kajaia next up followed by Peter Rikli, who impressed in his TC2-specificaton Honda Civic FD. Driving a BMW E90 320 TC for LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler, Kajaia was a mere 0.404s slower than Borković as the rain helped to equalise car performance in the class-based ETCC.

At first nine cars ventured out on what became an increasingly wet 4.0-kilometre Zolder circuit before Andreas Pfister and Ronny Jost joined the action with 25 and 20 minutes remaining respectively. Rikli left the pit lane with 18 minutes of the 45-minute session to go as the rain continued.

Mato Homola, who was quickest in the dry first test in Belgium, was fourth fastest in his SMT SEAT with Daniel Conrad fifth and Pfister sixth.

TC2 frontrunner Michal Matĕjovský and all six Super 1600 drivers didn’t attempt a lap in the belief the conditions were unrepresentative for what is due to be a rain-free weekend in the ETCC.

The ETCC drivers will be back on track for Free Practice at 10h00 local time on Saturday. Click here for the Testing 2 classification.

Christjohannes Schreiber will start ETCC Race of Vila Real defending a slender one-point lead in the battle to be crowned FIA European Touring Car Cup champion for 2017.

ETCC Race of Vila Real is set for a live television extravaganza with TVI showing both races as they happen on several digital platforms including TVI Player, TVI24.iol.pt and Facebook.com/tvi24.

Top Portuguese driver Fábio Mota will be hoping to make a big impact on the streets of Vila Real this weekend as he looks to build on his FIA European Touring Car Cup podium double last time out in Germany. This is what the LEIN Racing SEAT driver had to say ahead of his home race.
