Rikli “very bitter” after bad luck in ETCC

Peter Rikli said he was “very bitter” after a second victory in as many events slipped from his grasp in the FIA European Touring Car Cup.

After a track limits penalty cut short his winning celebrations at Monza last month, the Swiss was on course to land his first win of the new ETCC season in the second of two races at the Hungaroring last weekend.

However, a mechanical fault on the final lap dropped him from first to P10 in the final classification as Rikli Motorsport team-mate Christjohannes Schreiber went on to take victory, his third in four races.

“A cheap part is broken and it’s the second victory running through my fingers – I’m very bitter,” said Rikli.

Fábio Mota fought for a podium finish in both FIA European Touring Car Cup races at Zolder – but had to settle for a best result of fourth place scored in the first of two races in Belgium.

Seventeen-year-old Czech Václav Nimč will step up to the FIA European Touring Car Cup when the all-action series visits his homeland next month for ETCC Race of Most, the final event of the 12-round season.
