Four fight to be the top ETCC Single Make Trophy racer

Three drivers can beat Dušan Borković to the FIA European Touring Car Cup Single Make Trophy when the 2015 season reaches its dramatic climax at Pergusa in Sicily on Sunday.

Slovakia’s Mato Homola is best placed to pounce should his Serbian SEAT rival falter but he still has a 21-point deficit to overcome in his bid to top the final table.

Czech Republic racer Petr Fulín and Germany’s Andreas Pfister also remain in the hunt although Pfister’s hopes depend on Borković – a five-time SMT and outright winner in 2015 – non-scoring in Sicily.

“With one weekend to go and double points it was very important to have a good lead before then,” said Borković. “I am satisfied with a 21-point lead.”

“I wanted to be closer to [Dušan] Borković before [the final rounds] in Pergusa but that’s racing,” Homola added. “There is always a chance. When there is a mathematical chance I will always fight for it. I believe it will still happen but we will see.”

After claiming a season-best second in class at Zolder in Belgium last month, Ronny Jost will be hoping to end his SMT campaign with a flourish. However, the young Swiss hasn’t scored sufficient points this season to challenge for the title.

Eurosport will show both races from Sicily live on 11 October at 11h00 and 13h00 CET.

Christjohannes Schreiber will start ETCC Race of Vila Real defending a slender one-point lead in the battle to be crowned FIA European Touring Car Cup champion for 2017.

ETCC Race of Vila Real is set for a live television extravaganza with TVI showing both races as they happen on several digital platforms including TVI Player, TVI24.iol.pt and Facebook.com/tvi24.

Top Portuguese driver Fábio Mota will be hoping to make a big impact on the streets of Vila Real this weekend as he looks to build on his FIA European Touring Car Cup podium double last time out in Germany. This is what the LEIN Racing SEAT driver had to say ahead of his home race.
