ETCC drivers will relish ‘special’ Monza

FIA European Touring Car Cup drivers will relish the opportunity to race at Monza this season according to former ETCC driver turned factory Honda WTCC star Norbert Michelisz.

Michelisz ranks the legendary Italian Grand Prix venue as one of his favourite tracks and reckons the latest crop of ETCC racers will be in for a treat when the famous circuit opens the new ETCC season from 28-30 April.

“I won my first international race in 2008 in Monza so I have really special and nice memories,” said Michelisz. “It’s among my favourite tracks.”

Monza last hosted the ETCC in 2013. This year’s event will mark the third occasion that the series has visited Monza.

Rikli Motorsport will chase more FIA European Touring Car Cup success in 2017 with a new-look line-up. After guiding Kris Richard to ETCC Super 2000 Cup title gold last season, the Swiss squad has recruited up-and-coming talent Christjohannes Schreiber to partner team regular, ETCC stalwart and fellow Swiss Peter Rikli in its TCN2-specification Honda Civics.

Jean Todt, the President of the FIA European Touring Car Cup’s governing body, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile, and the Chairman of the Executive Board and Co-CEO of JCDecaux, Jean-Charles Decaux, were in Paris on Friday to launch the first worldwide outdoor campaign on road safety.

Entrance tickets to what is set to be one of the most popular events of the FIA European Touring Car Cup season are now on sale.

History was made in the current era of the FIA European Touring Car Cup when Vila Real in Portugal hosted the series’ first street race back in June 2016.

There will be entertainment on and off the track when the 2017 FIA European Touring Car Cup season concludes at Autodrom Most in October.
