Borković puts pressure on Homola with ETCC Warm Up pace

Borković puts pressure on Homola with ETCC Warm Up pace

Mato Homola will face a tough challenge from Dušan Borković in the opening race at Brno today based on the Serbian’s pace in Warm Up for the Czech FIA European Touring Car Cup double-header.

Homola and Borković, who clashed at the Hungaroring in May, will occupy the front row of the grid in their SEATs with Homola just ahead following his Qualifying push on Saturday. While Borković is a three-time winner in the ETCC’s Single Make Trophy this season, Homola has yet to claim a victory.

During the 15-minute Warm Up this morning, Borković was a slender 0.466s slower than his rival with Andreas Pfister next up in another SEAT, 1.298s down on Homola.

Although Warm Up is used primarily to finalise set-up for the two races, it does provide a late form guide for the competitive action ahead.

Of his chances of winning at Brno, Homola said: “My target is to win as every driver here. Our overall pace is very good. But it’s all about the racing and we don’t know what will happen. I don’t think there are any parts where I can be afraid but the races will be really, really tough against Borković and [Petr] Fulín and so on.”

While Homola’s Warm Up top spot was expected, there were a couple of surprises further down the order: Aytaç Biter was quickest in TC2T, while Gilles Bruckner was fastest in Super 1600. However, Michal Matĕjovský continued his domination of TC2 by going sixth quickest overall. Click here to view the Warm Up classification.

Christjohannes Schreiber will start ETCC Race of Vila Real defending a slender one-point lead in the battle to be crowned FIA European Touring Car Cup champion for 2017.

ETCC Race of Vila Real is set for a live television extravaganza with TVI showing both races as they happen on several digital platforms including TVI Player, TVI24.iol.pt and Facebook.com/tvi24.

Top Portuguese driver Fábio Mota will be hoping to make a big impact on the streets of Vila Real this weekend as he looks to build on his FIA European Touring Car Cup podium double last time out in Germany. This is what the LEIN Racing SEAT driver had to say ahead of his home race.
