THEY SAID… THEY SAID…

Driver quotes from the ETCC qualifying press conference at the Slovakia Ring.

Fernando Monje (1st in S2000): “We did a good lap early on in the session. We were lucky that the lap came early and so we were able to save our tyres for tomorrow, but the BMW will push hard for sure. The most important thing tomorrow is the Championship and not the race victories, so we have to think about maintaining the lead and keep going on.”

Michal Matějovský (2nd in S2000): “Of course, I want to win but it will be very hard; the BMWs will be very strong towards the end of the race. I need to look after my tyres and hope I have done enough when the BMWs come back. I know this circuit - I’ve done maybe three or four races here - so I am quite happy with the track.”

Petr Fulín (3rd in S2000): “I think we did a good job, because we had to change the engine and so we only had five laps in the morning and only one lap now. I also had some bad luck in the last corner when I met a slower car, but I hope I can use my tyres well tomorrow because I expect hot weather. Fernando was very fast in Monza and I know he will be fast when the green light goes on, but I hope I will be able to really use the BMW in the second half of each race.”

Stian Paulsen (1st in SMT): “I had a great start to the season in Monza and I hope I can do the same again this weekend. I know Pfister was quite close to me in Qualifying, so it should be a good fun battle tomorrow. I was hoping for a few more entries this weekend, but it should still be a good race.”

Nikolay Karamyshev (1st in SP): “So far I am happy with my performance here in Slovakia. I have a gap of one and a half seconds to my competitor in the Super Production class, but unfortunately there aren’t so many competitors. But qualifying is qualifying and racing is racing. We will see tomorrow what will happen.”

Kevin Krammes (1st in S1600): “I would love to get the same result as in Monza - that is my aim. I know the organisers have sold all the tickets for tomorrow and it is a new experience for me to be competing in front of so many people, but I’m really looking forward to two good races.”
