GIOVANARDI SETS THE PACE IN PRACTICE
23 Jul 2011

Fabrizio Giovanardi set the pace in the 30-minute practice session, prelude to this afternoon’s qualifying that kiks off at 15.00. A light rain welcomed the drivers at the beginning of the session, making the track a bit slippery; however the tarmac tried up quickly and lap times began to improve. Fabrizio Giovanardi was the first one to set a significant fastest lap of 1:30.404 straight out of the pits, with nine minutes left on the clock, that he improved on his second lap to 1:29.277.

Michel Nykjær was the only other driver to go under the 1:30 mark as he posted the second fastest lap of 1:29.567.
The BMW cars of Mehdi Bennani and Ibrahim Okyay were classified third and fourth with laps of 1:30.552 and 1:31.784 respectively, with Peter Rikli’s Honda Civic in fifth position (1:32.045).
Aleksandar Tošić emerged as the best of the Super Production class, driving his Honda Civic to set a lap of 1:48.484 when the track was still damp.
Erwin Lukas’ Ford Fiesta ST topped the S1600 class with the time of 1:44.804 that placed him in ninth position overall.
